Custom kitchen renovation in Ottawa featuring warm green shaker cabinetry and a dark stained maple island with seating.

Project Still Grain

Location: Kanata, ON
Photographer: Kevin Belanger

This project began with a builder’s grade kitchen that needed both a functional and aesthetic update, with the clients hoping for island seating, ceiling-height cabinetry, and a wall oven, while also coordinating new hardwood flooring and foyer tile with their recently updated staircase. We reimagined the layout to fit all their must-haves, incorporating an exposed hood fan that highlights a striking herringbone backsplash. The clients’ love of earth tones inspired a gorgeous green for the cabinets, while the wood island echoes the colour of their new staircase, creating a cohesive flow throughout the main floor.

Additional updates included a fireplace with beautiful stone and a custom mantel, and the removal of a half-wall and decorative column to open the kitchen to the family room for a more modern feel. The result is a kitchen that is both practical and inviting, perfect for sharing with friends and family, and this design was recognised with a GOHBA award in the Traditional Custom Kitchen category.
